The power should be balanced: Central dimensions of healthy intergenerational
partnerships
By: Dr. Daniela DiGiacomo, The Kentucky Student Voice Team, and Kate Ritchie

This article tells the story of the Kentucky Student Voice Team (KSVT), an organization
based in the state of Kentucky in the United States of America. KSVT is led by young people
(mostly teenagers), whose goal is to make sure that students’ voices are heard and taken
seriously when it comes to their own education. At any given time, there are about 100
students from across the state of Kentucky who are members of KSVT, and they conduct
their own research, create their own policy solutions, and tell their own stories through
their online newspaper.

In this article, readers will hear about how KSVT includes adults in
their organization and in their work to fight for better, more inclusive schools and
communities. Readers will learn about how to balance the power between adults and
young people so that they can work as partners on issues they care about, together.
